Memorable Trip to Jayanti – Kallol Mukherjee

As a wild-life photographer that was the most memorable trip to Jayanti for me arranged by Wonder Vision on 3/11/14..We were getting back from jungle at 8.30 a.m….The sun was shining .. gentle breeze was there..our jeep was crossing the Jayanti river from North to Southwards..shallow water of Jayanti river was shining and creating ‘Little Diamonds” everywhere around the riverbed. I was at the back portion of our jeep, suddenly I saw a raptor was hovering and was getting down towards the riverbed , I jumped out from the jeep … I told my friends ‘Don’t wait for me …go back to Banante Resort”… & I start taking photographs of that large beautiful bird… I took my last shot of the bird at 8.59 a.m…then the bird flew towards East.. it’s long wings was shining with the sunshine of young sun… What a spectacular sighting that was…But the real surprise was waiting for me and for all the bird lovers of West-Bengal..Lately I found that the bird was among the most rarest bird ever found in Eastern India…That was a Saker Falcon…A very rare raptor…that was the first and only photographic and visual evidence (only sighting) for the state West-Bengal…the images of that bird was the cover page of prestigious ornithological journal ‘Indian Birds’  (June 2015 issue) and winner of Savous Magazine’s all India contest (January 15) and finalist of BBC Wildlife Photographer of the year 2015 (U.K)...
